Background:

My name is Sarah Leu and I am from Pasadena, California. Since elementary school, I have been interested in math and science. In the fourth grade, our class learned a unit on astronomy: stars, planets, and Galileos study of Jupiters moons. This was when I first began to consider a career in astronomy or physics. In addition, my high school math and physics teacher at Pasadena High School inspired me; his enthusiasm for math and physics is contagious. Last summer, I attended the Womens Technology Program at MIT where I will be attending school in the fall. This summer I will be participating in SpaceSHIP, an internship at JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory). In this internship, I will be working on Radio Science which explores the gravity and atmospheres of planets using radio links. From a young age, I have also participated in musical theater through school and with Childrens Theater Experience, a theater company. Like math and science, musical theater has become an exciting part of my life and I hope to continue it through college. I cannot wait to begin this wonderful adventure. I am honored and thankful for the American Physical Society Scholarship.
