Jessica Saiz

Background:

My name is Jessica Saiz. This fall I will be a senior at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado as a physics major. I was born in Espanola, a small town in Northern New Mexico. Growing up in Espanola gave me a rich love of family and culture. The members of my family are the most important people in this world to me and I thank them profusely for the belief and support they have always willingly given whenever it is needed. I am the most blessed person to have the family I have.

For the past two summers, I have had the privilege of working for the Los Alamos National Laboratory Neutron Science Center. Here, I have had the opportunity and honor to be mentored by some of the most renowned physicists in the country. All have been extremely supportive of me and my studies, and were always willing to allot me a multitude of opportunities to advance my educational career.

After completing my undergraduate studies, I would like to pursue a graduate degree in bio-physics with the intention of one day becoming a high school teacher and/or college professor. A teaching career will allow me the opportunity to give back to my community and inspire future generations of students.

I am grateful to be allotted this award and thank APS for the opportunities that they have given me!
