Massachusetts Institute of Technology
My name is Carrine Johnson and I am from Rancho Palos Verdes, California. I recently finished my first year at MIT where I have decided to major in physics. I have enjoyed my time at MIT so far and am looking forward to next year.
I was first exposed to physics the summer before my junior year. During the summer program I studied Newtonian physics and found it to be very interesting. Using the principles I learned, I assembled a winning catapult with my team. While in high school I pursued my interest in physics by taking both Physics B AP and Physics C AP. I also got involved with my school’s FIRST Robotics Team. I was amazed to see all the physics principles we could apply to robotics.Eventually I became the team captain of the Robotics Team.
The previous summer I interned at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. I returned last summer and worked on the All Terrain Hex-Limbed Extra Terrestrial Explorer (ATHLETE). I am now participating in my third summer working at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. After I graduate from MIT I hope to return to NASA and begin a career there.
