Andrew Emerick
University of Minnesota Minneapolis

Background:

My name is Andrew Emerick and although I attended high school in Katy, Texas, I am originally from Dearborn, Michigan. I will be a Junior at the University of Minnesota during the 2011-12 academic year pursuing a double major in Physics and Astrophysics. I was originally interested in these fields because I was fascinated by the extremes of nature and knowledge that both Physics and Astrophysics deal with trying to explain everything from Quantum Field Theory to galaxy clusters. Since I began my undergraduate career both my academic studies and the research opportunities I have participated in have served to further this interest and my love of the unknown. I am currently interested in the following areas (in part due to research I have done or am currently doing): large scale structure of the universe, gravitational wave detection, theoretical and experimental high energy and particle physics, and general cosmology. Once I complete my undergraduate studies I plan on attending graduate school in pursuit of a doctorate in either Physics or Astrophysics.
