Program Goal
The APS Bridge Program (APS-BP) is an effort to increase the number of physics PhDs awarded to underrepresented minority (URM) students, including African American, Hispanic American, and Native American students
APS aims to do this by creating sustainable transition programs and a national network of doctoral granting institutions to mentor students to successfully complete PhD programs. The project incorporates strong evidence about support structures that predict academic success of URM students, and establishes links between minority serving institutions and doctoral granting institutions through research activities, collaboration, and personal contact.

APS Resolution
June 2010, the APS Executive Board passed the following resolution:
The American Physical Society recognizes the significant disparity in participation by under-represented minorities in physics at all levels, and commits to support the Minority Bridge Program that will establish a set of programs and related efforts to help under-represented minority undergraduates transition to doctoral degree-granting programs and obtain PhD degrees in physics.Related APS Statement
