Prosenjit Bagchi

Prosenjit Bagchi
University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign

Citation:

"For his careful and extensive numerical experiments elucidating the fundamental mechanisms governing the motion of a spherical particle subject to complex unsteady and inhomogeneous flows at moderate to high Reynolds number."

Background:

Prosenjit Bagchi received a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from Jadavpur University in Calcutta, India, in 1993, and a Master of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, in 1996. He graduated in 2002 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a PhD in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, under the supervision of Professor S. Balachandar. His thesis work has focused on the large-scale simulation of multiphase flows, and has been published in the Journal of Fluid Mechanics and Physics of Fluids. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University for 2002—2003. Currently he is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Rutgers University. His research interest is in computational fluid dynamics, multiphase flow, and biofluid mechanics.

Selection Committee:
