Matthew G. Bunn

Matthew Bunn is a Senior Research Associate in the Project on Managing the Atom at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. His research interests focus primarily on policies to prevent nuclear proliferation and nuclear terrorism. Before coming to Harvard, Bunn served as an adviser to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, where he took part in a wide range of U.S.-Russian negotiations relating to security, monitoring, and disposition of weapons-usable nuclear materials, and directed a secret study of security for nuclear stockpiles for President Clinton. Previously, Bunn directed a seminal National Academy of Sciences study on disposition of excess plutonium, and served as editor of the journal Arms Control Today. He is the author or co-author of more than a dozen books or major technical reports, and dozens of articles in publications ranging from Science and Nuclear Technology to Foreign Policy and The Washington Post. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1995.
