Jacqueline Ashmore

Jacqueline Ashmore
University of Cambridge

Citation:

"For elegant theoretical and numerical analyses of coating and free-surface flows."

Background:

Jacqueline Ashmore studies fluid dynamics, with specific interests in lubrication and thin-film flows, flow in porous media, and complex fluids. After receiving the M.Math. degree from Oxford University in 1998, Ashmore was awarded a Kennedy Scholarship to attend Harvard University, where she worked with Professor Howard A. Stone in the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences and received a Ph.D. in applied mathematics in 2003. Ashmore's thesis work focused on analytical and numerical studies of free-surface and coating flows, and was recognized by the American Physical Society in 2004 with the Acrivos Dissertation Award in Fluid Dynamics. She is currently a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) at Cambridge University where she is studying flow and transport in directional solidification processes, and cavitation in lubrication flows.

Selection Committee:

Sutanu Sarkar (Chair), James Brasseru (Vice-Chair)(11/05), F.F. Grinstein (11/04), J.R. de Bruyn (11/04), Ellen Longmire (11/05), Ken Melville (11/05), Marc Perlin (11/05)
