Background:

Evgenya Smirnova received her Bachelors Degree from Nizhny Novgorod State University (Nizhny Novgorod, Russia) in 1999, and her Masters Degree from the same institution in 2002. She was admitted to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2000, where she worked under the supervision of Dr. Richard Temkin. As a part of her dissertation work, she developed and tested the first working model of a Photonic Band Gap accelerator at 17 GHz. After graduating from MIT in 2005, Evgenya accepted a Directors Postdoctoral Fellowship from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Her work at LANL is concentrated on the construction of a PBG travelling-wave tube at W-band.
