APS and the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) held a second two-day conference to focus national attention on graduate education in physics. The conference hosted 107 participants from 74 different institutions and was a forum for presentations, panel discussions and breakout sessions by prominent speakers on physics graduate education.

Following the success of the first conference, APS included a significant student voice in the activities with 12 diverse graduate students present.  There was also a significant increase in the number of industrial and national lab representatives, since more than two thirds of the PhDs in physics find permanent employment outside of academia.

The conference aimed to spur innovation and creativity in our approach to graduate education in physics, and to foster discussions of good practice among leaders.
