Postdeadline Submissions

Deadline: Tuesday, September 15, 2009
Abstracts received after Friday, July 17, and before Tuesday, September 15, will be assigned to the Postdeadline Poster Session on Friday morning, November 6. After September 15 an author wishing to present their postdeadline abstract at the annual meeting must bring a one-page copy of the abstract to the meeting and the author will be assigned a poster board in the Friday morning Postdeadline Poster Session.

Note:  Poster Session boards are freestanding, measuring 4 feet high by 8 feet wide.


Submitting Abstracts

APS members may submit abstracts for the Poster Session.

    •  Type
    •  Subject Classification Category.


NOTE: Individuals wishing to join APS to submit an abstract should do so online. Membership numbers are emailed in the confirmation message within 24 hours of becoming a member. If you need to submit an abstract prior to receiving your member number, please enter "membership pending" in the abstract special instructions field. Membership will be verified after submission.

Abstract Length
Contributed abstracts are limited to 1300 characters, including title, authors, affiliations, spaces, titlenotes, and footnotes. The limit for invited abstracts is 2000 characters.

Online Web Submission Process
To speed up the submission process, have this information ready:
  1. The number and ordering of authors and collaborators
  2. Draft of the abstract body
  3. Type Category
  4. Subject Classification Category

Submitting a Test Abstract
We also recommend that, prior to submitting abstracts, new users select the Test Meeting and complete all steps in order to familiarize themselves with the process. Instructions on the Abstract Submission Site will guide you through the submission process.
  1. Log onto http://abstracts.aps.org
  2. Select Start Abstract Submission.
  3. Select the Test Meeting (IT05) (at the bottom of the list).
  4. Follow the directions to create your test abstract.

Submitting the Final Abstract
Instructions on the Abstract Submission Site explain the process.
  1. Log onto http://abstracts.aps.org
  2. Start Abstract Submission
  3. Select 51st Annual Meeting of the APS Division of Plasma Physics.
  4. A form is created for you.
  5. Choose LaTeX format or use the APS Word (RTF) template.
  6. Input your information.

Undergraduate and High School Students Doing Research

There will be a special poster session entitled "Undergraduate/High School Research" at the annual meeting on Tuesday, November 3. For the eighth year, DPP will present an outstanding poster award to undergraduate students. This session provides an opportunity for students to present results from summer and thesis research, as well as meet other plasma physicists, both senior researchers and students.

Undergraduate or high school students should submit their abstracts as contributed posters following the abstract submission procedure as outlined above. In order to present in this Tuesday session please select Category 10.0.0, Undergraduate or High School Research, from the Sorting Categories listed below.

If you have questions about the Undergraduate/High School Poster Session, please contact Saralyn Stewart.

DPP will waive the registration fee for undergraduate or high school student presenters. Indicate "undergrad" or "high school student" on the Registration Form and fax the form to APS. Use the fax number on the form.


Mini-Conferences

Organizers:  See Mini-Conference Guidelines for Organizers

Mini-conference presenters should submit their abstract electronically following the oral contributed abstract guidelines, and must: (1) include the Mini-Conference title in the Special Instructions; and (2) select  Subject Category 11.0.0. Presenters at mini-conferences are not precluded from submitting a separate abstract.

Questions about mini-conferences should be submitted to the Program Chair, Thomas Antonsen, with a copy (cc) to Saralyn Stewart.


Presentation Information

The first author is expected to present the paper. If multiple abstracts with the same first author are submitted, one paper will be assigned to the regular session and all others to the Supplemental Poster Session on Friday morning.

Submission of an abstract is taken as a representation by the submitter that they expect the first author to attend the conference.

Presentation of multiple papers, whether oral or poster, by a single person is not permitted except that the presenter of a review, invited, or tutorial talk, an education and outreach paper, or a mini-conference paper is allowed one additional abstract submission in the regular meeting program.
