Women in Plasma Physics Luncheon

Monday, November 12
12:45 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.

To register, please check the appropriate box on the Pre-Registration Form. The cost for the lunch is $25; women graduate and undergraduate students will pay $10 (partially supported by DPP). Informal discussion on issues of interest to women in plasma physics will be encouraged at each table.

Plan to attend a complimentary reception for Women in Plasma Physics. Professor Ian Hutchinson, DPP Chair, welcomes all meeting participants to this reception, which will be hosted by Professor Amitava Bhattacharjee, DPP Chair Elect.

University Fusion Association (UFA) General Meeting

Monday, November 17
6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

The UFA will hold its annual general meeting Monday night during the DPP annual meeting in Dallas. Details and discussion topics will be announced in August. The UFA meeting is open to members of the community and all conference participants.

Science Teachers Day Program

Tuesday, November 18
8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The Science Teachers Day program is endorsed by the APS Office of Education and Outreach, and is sponsored jointly by DPP and DPP member/institutional contributions in support of education and outreach. The program consists of general presentations, workshops and a poster session. DPP 2008 participants are invited and encouraged to meet the local science teachers during the Education and outreach Poster Session on Tuesday.

Town Meeting on Concerns for Junior Scientists

The DPP Committee for the Concerns of Junior Scientists is pleased to announce a special Town Meeting. The topics of discussion and details will be announced in August.

Meet the Editors of Physical Review E and Physical Review Letters

The Editors of journals cordially invite you to join them for conversation and refreshments. Your questions, suggestions, compliments and complaints about the journals are welcome. The Editors hope you will join them.

Student Appreciation Reception

Professor Ian Hutchinson, 2008 DPP Chair, cordially invites all DPP meeting participants to attend a complimentary reception in honor of the graduate, undergraduate, and high school student participants of the 2008 annual meeting. All students and student advisors are particularly encouraged to attend. Punch and cookies will be served. All attendees are encouraged to participate in open discussion on topics of interest to plasma physics students.

DPP 2008 meeting participants will have the opportunity to attend the Plasma Expo along with students from surrounding Dallas middle schools and high schools and their science teachers, many of who will have attended the Science Teachers Day on Tuesday. The Expo focuses on hands-on science education, engaging students, parents, teachers and the general public at all levels. Students will interact with science professionals and be able to discuss topics in energy production, fusion, astronomical phenomena, and more. DPP 2008 meeting participants are encouraged to attend the Expo and spend time interacting with the lively demonstrations and their presenters.
