March Meeting 2013  •  March 18 - March 22  •  Baltimore, Maryland

LGBT Roundtable Discussion

Tuesday, March 19
5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Hilton Baltimore
Latrobe Room

Currently there is extremely little in the way of resources for LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, questioning, asexual, pansexual, etc.) physicists. This meeting will be an open conversation to report on the progress being made by an ad hoc group within the APS to address these needs and to continue identifying and creating resources within our community. The session is open to both LGBT+ physicists as well as straight and cisgender allies. Some topics that will be on the discussion floor: lack of employment protections and established best practices to eliminate discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression, lack of data on the demographics of LGBT+ physicists, need for health insurance policies that cover domestic partners and transgender related health care, and development of networking resources so that LGBT+ physicists have a means of communicating with one another. Please bring an open mind and your most creative ideas.

Participants are also encouraged to attend the CSWP/COM Diversity Reception and the Evening Social.

Evening Social
9:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

City Cafe
1001 Cathedral Street (entrance on Eager St)
Baltimore, MD 21201

After the CSWP/COM Diversity Reception, LGBT+ physicists are encouraged to meet for social time over food and drink. We encourage participants to arrange taxi sharing at the reception.
