Help Imprisoned APS Member Omid Kokabee
Saturday, April 5 - Monday, April 7
9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Join APS in calling for the unconditional release of physics graduate student Omid Kokabee by signing a petition on his behalf at the APS April Meeting 2014. Information and materials will be available at the booth during the days and times listed above.
In 2011, Kokabee was arrested by Iranian authorities when trying to return to his graduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He had repeatedly refused to work on Iranian military projects that had nuclear applications. He was subsequently accused of "communicating with a hostile government" and "accepting illegal earnings." Kokabee was sentenced to ten years in prison and is currently serving his sentence in Evin Prison in Iran.
