Network Engineer

The American Physical Society (APS) seeks an experience Network Engineer.  The position will help plan the technology roadmap at the American Center for Physics (ACP) and support the network and computing infrastructure. 

Responsibilities

Network Engineer will perform the installation, configuration and maintenance of network servers and equipment

  • Designing, installing and configuring network  infrastructure, including core network switches, routers, network performance monitoring tools, VPN concentrators.
  • Installing, configuring, maintaining and administering DNS and DHCP systems
  • Performing daily network maintenance and troubleshooting, applying operating system patches, software upgrades, and hardware firmware updates to network servers, switches, routers, firewalls.
  • Planning, implementing and monitoring network security, including, but not limited to, setting up firewalls, intrusion detection & prevention, web filtering, and anti-spam/virus systems.
  • Supporting VOIP services, SAN and Server Virtualization.
  • Assisting with the planning, design, research and acquisition of new or upgraded hardware/software systems.
  • Generating, maintaining and updating, as necessary, network diagrams and documentation.
  • Performing system administration, back-up systems' configuration/databases, monitor system faults and usage load.
  • Supporting network equipment in the collocation site.
  • Researching technology solutions to improve building technology and provide more efficient services to our internal customers
  • Assisting with management and maintenance of ACP Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Virtualized environment.
  • Documenting network topology and update as necessary.
  • Configuring and supporting Virtual Private Networks (VPN) for site to site access and securing remote access by end-users.

Qualifications

College degree or equivalent experience required.  Minimum three years experience in local and wide area networking.

  • UNIX/Linux systems administration
  • Network security, SAN, virtualization, VoIP, Internet and security administration
  • Must be able to lift and move in excess of 50 pounds
